The Vongola Famiglia began many, many years ago with the Primo. The Primo was a fine man who didn't have anything against taking Guardians from all walks of life. He took anyone from a spoiled prince to another mafia famiglia. He didn't care, and he built up his family. His family was known as a strong one. It is known as one of the strongest in Vongola History just like the Vongola is known as the strongest Famiglia.
The Vongola has been through many generations since the first. The Primo all the way down through the Unidecimiso. Now, it is time to find the next heir to the Vongola Legacy. But more has happened in recent times then the history charts suggest. A lot of this has to do with the exploits of the Vongola's Decimo, Tsunayoshi Sawada.
Tsunayoshi Sawada is a direct decedent of the Primo, but that wasn't all there was to the boy. He was the successor chosen by the rings after the death of three other candidates. He battled fiercely for his place as boss against the Varia. Tsuna didn't at that time want anything to do with the mafia, but he still won in the end. He won the title of the Decimo, and he has held onto that title.
Tsuna went through many things during his time as boss. He battled fiercely both in the Ring Conflict and the Future. He stood by his beliefs, but he also still didn't have a heart suited for the mafia. He stayed boss as long as he needed too. His heir was apparent. The Unidecimiso was chosen, and Tsuna should've been able to just slip into the shadows and disappear. Things didn't go that way for the Vongola though.
The Unidecimiso was none other than Tsuna's son, Hidetada. The boy was a known prodigy from birth. He excelled and loved all there was to love about the mafia, but his training was quick and forced. Tsuna loved his son, but he also wanted away from the mafia realm he'd been forced into. Hidetada came into power far before his time, and he was taken out of the world far before he should've been. This is one of Tsuna's lingering regrets. The loss of Hidetada was harsh on the Vongola Famiglia.
They had no other apparent heirs, and Tsuna was forced back into the position of boss. Tsuna and his Guardians were aging though. They wouldn't last much longer as the rulers of the most powerful mafia family, and that is when the race to find a successor began. Everyone remotely related to the Vongola was brought in and tested. Most failed, and the few that passed never survived long after receiving the news. And Tsuna had someone else in mind.
No one really knew what went on in Hidetada's personal life. They didn't know about the man's infatuation and engagement to Hotaru Rokudo. The two had been perfect together, and Hotaru had been carrying Hidetada's child when the man was snatched away from her. She had gone into seclusion though, and very few knew where she was. Tsuna did, and he knew that great things would come from her child. He had seen a spark in him, but he also knew that troubling times were up ahead.
Tsuna carried on as boss, and he still acts as the active boss now. Though training for the Dodicemiso is proceeding smoothly. He has finally brought his grandson, Kenjiro Rokudo, out of seclusion and gathered the boy's Guardians. Now it is just up to time. The Vongola's fate lies in the hands of a sixteen year old boy that spent all his childhood hiding away from people. Tsuna can't help but worry about the fate of the family.

The Varia is an independent branch of the Vongola family. The Varia works on its own time and pace. They take orders from no one, and they have been known to go against the boss of the Vongola family. They are one of the many branches affiliated with the Vongola family, but they are seen as a group all to their own. The current boss is a strict lady by the name of Maria. She and her guardians are the best assassins around, and they could easily turn against the new boss at any moment.
The Varia has a small history that is of some importance. The boss before Maria was named Xanxus. He was a powerful leader that for a while couldn’t find someone to take over for him, but he finally found the perfect candidate, Maria. Maybe it was because of this that the Vongola family later considered Maria as a potential twelfth boss… it’s really hard to tell. Xanxus himself had once been a candidate for the position of the Tenth boss. He lost to Tsunayoshi Sawada, and he never could quite accept the brunette.
The Battle of the Rings is one that almost ever mafia family knows as it was the first major battle for the Tenth generation, and it was basically them claiming their right to be acknowledged. The Varia of that time had thought that Sawada and his gang wouldn’t stand a chance. They were wrong, and the Varia was to remain an independent unit. Aside from this battle and other attempts at destroying the Vongola, nothing else of great importance has happened with the Varia family since Maria took over almost three years ago.

Lupo Cielo has been around for almost twenty generations. It is an old family that has gained a lot of recognition in Italy, but this family has never tried to step out of Italy. The Lupo Cielo family has allied itself with many strong families such as the Vongola family, but they are most notable for their many branch families. Some of the most notable branch families are the Nube Lunare family and Stella Solare family. Not much is actually known about this family as they keep to the shadows. The Lupo family is well known for producing the best politicians and inventors, but those are about the only concrete facts. The current boss of this family is pretty much nonexistent thought there are plenty of theories circling around about this family.

The Stella Famiglia was founded ten generations ago by Yonekuni Ieyasu. He was the oldest of the Ieyasu family, and he was also the most battle-oriented. He thought everything had to be fought in order for something to be gained. He often felt that he was acting disgraceful when he allowed others to talk him out of a fight. Yonekuni believed that everything could be settled with a fist to the face... or gut. His stands weren't nearly as high as one might believe, and he only wanted the strongest.
Yonekuni's family was made up of other battle-oriented idiots. They all just wanted a good brawl and nothing more. They forged their way ahead like a train not caring who got in their way. They were merciless and complete idiots. They had no attachments, and the ones that knew about them feared their fighting force.
Yonekuni's only goal was to be at the top. To get there, he needed to destroy the Vongola and another new family, the Nube. Though in the beginning he didn't know just how far the rivalry between the Stella and Nube would go.
The Stella Solare Famiglia wasn't named until the third generation. The first two generations didn't care enough to figure out a name for themselves. They just lived for the fight. The third generation had that same thirst for battle, but this boss had a bit of intelligence behind him. He tried to gain a truce with the Nube Famglia, but at the time, it didn't work. The third generation boss was one of the most revered in the Stella's bloody history.
Things didn't look better for the relationship between the Stella and the Nube Famiglias until the fifth generation. The fourth generation was short and sweet, and no one really knows much about that boss or what he did. All they know is that one night he was boss, and the next he was gone. Some believe that he went into hiding. They say he couldn't handle just how much blood the Stella was known to spill. Others say he was assassinated, but no one really knows.
The fifth generation was the generation that things began to change. A truce between the Stella and Nube came into act, and everything seemed a lot better. Blood was still being spilled left and right, but it didn't seem like the Stella were as focused on battle. But fear still lingered, and dark clouds were beginning to gather.
The truce between the Stella and Nube lasted only for a generation. The sixth boss of the Stella ended the Nube's sixth boss's life prematurely, and after that, the animosity between the two families sky rocketed. At that time, everything was set back to how it had been in the first generation.
Nothing really important happened until the ninth generation. The time between the sixth and ninth generations is riddled with blood and battles with the Nube Famiglia. It was the ninth generation that things started to change again. The ninth boss was setting his sights on expanding. He knew that the Tenth Vongola Boss was settled mainly in Japan, and he didn't want the Vongola to pull ahead. He sent the next generation to Japan and told them to try and knock the Vongola apart.
The tenth generation is know located in Namimori as per the ninth's orders, but anything could happen from now on.

The Nube Lunare famiglia was founded ten generations ago by Tsume Ieyasu. He was the youngest of the Ieyasu family, and he was also the most peaceful and strategic of the family. He was of the mind that nothing came through warfare, and he never looked forward to bloodshed. He was often isolated by his family because of this, but he never let that change his beliefs. Tsume believed that everything could be solved peaceful through a diplomatic approach and an understanding disposition. His beliefs kept him strong, and they kept him from crumbling under the pressure that his brother constantly placed on him.
Tsume's family was created around his beliefs, and they all happened to have very passive and rather cynical views. They all seemed to be haters of violence, but they were just as quick to start a fight should someone insult their beliefs. They carved their path through constant word battles, and they gained their fame for their passive warfare. People often seemed far more wary of their passive battles then the constant brawls of the Stella Solare family.
Tsume's goal wasn’t necessarily to be at the top; he wanted to make sure that the innocent people didn’t fall victim to scoundrels. To achieve this, he needed to create a vast network of alliances and spies. This need lead him to creating a rivalry early on with his brother’s Stella Solare family, but Tsume never knew that he was fighting against his brother.
The Nube family thrived for two generations, but it collapsed during the third generation. The third generation was an idiotic group. They couldn’t decide what was right or wrong, and they constantly made the wrong decisions. They even gave up a perfectly good truce with the Stella family because of their foolish pride. The third generation is the most hated out of the Nube history.
Things didn't look better for the relationship between the Nube and the Stella families until the fifth generation. The fourth generation was short and sweet, and no one really knows much about that boss or what he did. All they know is that one night he was boss and the next he was gone. Some believe that he went into hiding. They say he couldn't handle just how much information the Nube boss needed to know. Others say he was assassinated, but no one really knows. It is also believed that he disappeared with the Stella boss.
The fifth generation was the generation that things began to change. A truce between the Nube and Stella came into act, and everything seemed a lot better. The Nube were able to focus their attention on other areas, and for a while it seemed that things would always be so bright and clear.
The truce between the Nube and Stella lasted only for a generation. The sixth boss of the Stella ended the Nube's sixth boss's life prematurely, and after that, the animosity between the two families sky rocketed. At that time, everything was set back to how it had been in the first generation.
Nothing really important happened until the ninth generation. The time between the sixth and ninth generations is riddled with lies and secrets and battles with the Stella family. It was the ninth generation that things started to change again. The ninth boss was setting his sights on expanding. He knew that the Tenth Vongola Boss was settled mainly in Japan, and he didn't want to remain a possible enemy anymore. The Vongola family is said to be the best, and the ninth boss knew that an alliance needed to be made. He also knew that the Stella was on the move, and he needed to keep a close eye on the next generation.
The tenth generation is now located in Namimori as per the ninth's orders, but anything could happen from now on.
